Description

SORRENTO AND POSITANO

Enjoy a full day excursion to the south of Italy and experience the quaint and beautiful cliff town of Sorrento and the famous and picturesque town of Positano located on the amazing Amalfi Coast. The town of Sorrento overlooks the bay of Naples and is the key place on the Sorrentine Peninsula and has amazing views of the city of Naples itself across the bay, Mount Vesuvius and the famous island of Capri. In the afternoon you will continue on along the scenic Amalfi coast which claims to being Europe’s most beautiful stretch of coastline. One of the highlights on the coast is the town of Positano. Positano’s location high above the water has inspired a thousand picture perfect postcards.

We will visit

SORRENTO

Sorrento is also famous for the production of limoncello, an alcoholic digestive made from lemon rinds, alcohol, water and sugar. In addition, Sorrento is famous for their agricultural production of citrus fruit, wine, nuts and olives. There is also a craft tradition of inlaid wood called Marquetry. The Sorrentine Marquetry is still carried out today by master craftsmen who have refined their techniques but without relinquishing the tradition handed down by their ancestors.

POSITANO

Specializing in scenery and sand, Positano hangs halfway between Sorrento and Amalfi town on the most spectacular stretch of the coast. The village is a lovely sight from a distance and is a pleasant gathering of cafés and is famous for its fashion boutiques. The ‘skyline’ looks like it did a century ago. Notice the town’s characteristic Saracen-inspired rooftop domes. Filled with sand, these provide insulation—cool in the summer and hot in the winter.

Squished into a ravine with narrow alleys that cascade down to the harbor, Positano requires you to stroll whether you’re going up or heading down. The steep stairs are a way of life for the hardy locals. The center of town has no main square unless you count the beach. The town has acquired popularity since there is little to do here outside of sampling the local cuisine, window-shop and enjoying the beach and views.
