During the afternoon in between we will visit also the town of Pienza which lies in the heart of the region Val d’Orcia, a wonderful and untouched valley.

Montalcino

Start your day by immerging yourself in the magical atmospheres of these medieval towns. Enjoy a short sight-seeing tour of the beautiful classic hill-town of Montalcino which is set within a full set of walls.

After the visit Enjoy a delicious wine tasting accompanied by an authentic Tuscan “merenda” in a beautiful vineyard near Montalcino. You will taste various wines produced in the area including the Brunello di Montalcino.

Pienza

Drive through the panoramic Tuscan countryside to the town of Pienza which was rebuilt from the village of Corsignano and is the birthplace of Enea Silvio Piccolomini, a Renaissance humanist born into an exiled Sienese family, who later became Pope Pius II.

Once he was elevated to Pope, over the years Piccolomini had the entire village rebuilt as an ideal Renaissance town. Pienza is known as the “ideal city” or the “utopian city” and is the touchstone of Renaissance urbanism representing the first application of humanist urban planning concepts.

Spend the afternoon taking in the famous atmosphere by visiting the Piccolomini Gardens, the city’s Cathedral and the beautiful architecture of this UNESCO World Heritage Site.
